The Game
Players receive five cards and discard one to pay tribute and bid for a roof bonus.
Assemble your remaining four cards and roof into a block to add to the skyline.
Blocks are placed into the city, affecting every player who can see them.
Score for visible blocks during and after the game. Crown your towers with Spires for bonuses.
The game unfolds over seven rounds. The player who best manages their building strategy, and their rivals, wins.
Origin Story
Spyre began in 2017, inspired by the Kowloon Walled City: a 6.5-acre enclave in Hong Kong that housed over 35,000 residents at its peak. We were captivated by the idea of a vertically built, impossibly dense city.
That early design introduced the tile-placement mechanic where blocks face all players and obstruct the blocks behind them. This element has been the cornerstone of every iteration since.
Over the years the theme evolved, but the heart of the game, meaningful spatial interaction between players, never changed. In 2025, Spyre was named winner of the Panda Game Manufacturing 25 in 25 contest.
